Do you love large, gentle, quiet, low energy, passive dogs whose sole purpose is to be against your side, on your lap or across your chest (a living, breathing weighted blanket) to tell you how much you are loved? Truly, I have no sense of personal space and want to be on you to express the depths of my love. I need a home where this calm, gentle, quiet and extreme loving nature is valued as a constant presence rather than a missed opportunity by leaving me alone for long periods of time. If this suits you, then I’m your gal. My name is Ruby and I am indeed a gem. I love greeting and being with humans of all sizes and they love me because I am so chill. I have really mastered this gentle and quiet thing. Don’t be fooled though, I am strong and can exert that strength very occasionally on my leash, or when I go limp to make moving me a weight room challenge (especially when I’m on you and you need to get up). Speaking of leash, I am a great walker. I enjoy ambling along and also tracking smells on the ground. I love meeting people and am thrilled to spot bunnies, squirrels and gophers. Bunnies are fun to observe, perhaps chase, but squirrels and gophers, well my mission is to keep our neighbourhood clear of them. I love my yard and am happy to freely explore it and be able to do zoomies, but I understand my need for fenced in boundaries. I am good with meeting dogs as long as they are chill like me and not insistent on being dominant. I find reactive dogs full of nonsense and can move on. I use to live with dogs but am currently wallowing in a dog-free home where I get all the attention and do not compete for food, toys or people. I have recently stayed a few days with another calm and patient dog and responded very well to a knowledgable human who kindly and firmly redirected me when necessary and we coexisted comfortably. I have met cats on walks and am curious. I might get along with a dog-savvy, confident cat who, along with my humans, keeps me in check. I love pulling all my toys out of my toy box and playing with them and better yet when my mom tosses them for me to chase and return. I miss my humans when they occasionally go out. I have been kennelled, but am happiest when left out where I can patiently watch out the window or lie by the door and await my humans’ return. I am ever so calm and relaxed while loving life hanging with my people. My goal is to make everyone with me as comfortable and happy as I am with them.
